Breast Reduction
If you feel that your breasts are too large and their weight is causing physical problems to your neck, back, shoulder, circulation, or even breathing problems, you may be a candidate for a breast reduction. The weight may also cause discomfort as a result of bra straps cutting into or irritating the skin. Even if physical discomfort is not a problem, you may feel awkward and self- conscious with the large size of your breasts in proportion to the rest of your body, leading to restriction of your physical activity or the way you dress.
Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty is a surgical procedure done to give you smaller, lighter, and firmer breasts. You can also reduce the size of and change the shape of the areola or nipples. It may be combined with other procedures on the breast such as breast lift (reduction mastopexy).
The aim of reduction mammoplasty is to restore the proportion of the bust by decreasing the size of the breasts, bringing the nipples to a higher position, and reducing the size of the areolae . It is also done to achieve symmetry when breasts are disproportionate in size and shape due to congenital defects or after surgery.
Breast reduction can be performed at any age, but waiting until breast development is complete is recommended. It is not recommended for women who desire to breastfeed.
Breast Reduction Techniques
Inferior Pedicle Technique
Also known as a keyhole or Weiss pattern reduction, involves an anchor-shaped incision which circles the areola.
Vertical Scar Technique
To perform this, a doctor performs what is also known as a lolipop or racket shaped incision around the areolae, extending downward to the inframammary fold.
Free Nipple Graft Technique
if your breasts are extremely large, the nipples and areolae may need to be completely detached before they are shifted to an appropriate position.
Reduction Mastopexy
Essentially a breast lift with a breast reduction, this procedure can dramatically restore your bust appearance, especially if you have lost a lot of weight and have a lot of excess skin.
Liposuction Only Technique
The surgery is done through tiny incisions with virtually no scarring, and involves a much quicker healing time with less pain.
